A folk-rock collection of traditional songs commissioned by the Northumbria Anthology in 2002, produced by the talented Jed Grimes featuring the fantastic voice of Bob Fox, who was nominated for 'Best Vocalist' award in the 2003 BBC Folk Awards, due to this release. Songs include 'The Bonny Gateshead Lass', 'Here's the Tender Coming' – which was also nominated 'Best Traditional Track' in the same year, 'Byker Hill' and 'Guard Yer Man Weel'. As it says in the booklet; it's OK to play this quite loud!

Pete Fyfe - www.folking.com - 24/09/2002The North-East of England has been established in folk music circles for many years represented by such great bands as Lindisfarne, Jack The Lad and Hedgehog Pie. Now a new name can be added to this illustrious roster.
The Hush boasts the vocal talents of Bob Fox, and an awesome line-up of Jed Grimes (ex-Hedgehog Pie) on guitars and bouzouki, Garry Linsley (saxophones), Graham Wood (piano), Paul Smith (drums) and Neil Harland on bass. Drawing material from the rich seam of traditional ('Here's The Tender Coming' and 'The Snow It Melts Te Soonest') and contemporary songs from their native area, the band have managed to capture fresh sounding arrangements that will appeal to the widest possible audience.
Exploring a diverse array of rhythms including reggae and jazz or the region's own indigenous timing of 3/2 the band's sound is vibrant without being over the top. The scene has been lacking an 'original' folk-rock sound for some time and considering the title of the band, The Hush have more than enough to shout about! By the way, when are we going to see the Hedgehog Pie albums released on CD?
