| THE GODFATHER OF NORTH EAST COMEDY Bobby Pattinson ![]() MWMCDSP28 |
Bobby’s Back Live at Whitley Bay Playhouse Bobby Pattinson’s career as a stage performer has taken him far beyond his native shores of North East England. He’s been an ambassador for the self-effacing observational humour that’s part of the culture of this birthplace. From as far as Australia, Canada and the USA, Bobby discovered that his humour found a welcome in all English speaking countries to the point that he would top the bill at those most prestigious of venues, the Sands and the Stardust Hotel in Las Vegas. But Bobby likes nothing better than working with North East audiences, where he can ‘taalk proppa’ and be understood. Understood and loved he most certainly is, as proved by this CD, where the sell-out audience gives him a standing ovation. But his favourite audiences are right here in the North East of England, where he’s won many awards for his work. At His Very Vest was recorded by Ken McKenzie in front of an audience at Newcastle Playhouse on 28 September 2003. Also available on VHS video: MWMV1008 And DVD: MWMDVD1008 |

| SUNDAY FOR SAMMY 2004 Various Artists ![]() MWMCDSP62 |
An amazing showcase of North East talent
When Geordie actor Sammy Johnson died suddenly in 1998, his friends Tim Healy and Jimmy Nail were determined he would be remembered. The results of their labours was the formation of the Sammy Johnson Memorial Fund and a series of bi-annual concerts. On the 1st February 2004, an all-star cast of Tynesiders performed two sell-out concerts at Newcastle City Hall in support of the fund. Those lucky enough to get tickets laughed and sang their way through two hours of fantastic Geordie entertainment featuring Tim Healy, Jimmy Nail, Kevin Whately, Brian Johnson and Denise Welch. 75% of proceeds from the sale of this product will be donated to the Sammy Johnson Memorial Fund. | Brendan Healy TALL STORIES ![]() MWMCDSP67 |
Recorded in front of a live audience at the Customs House, South Shields, on Friday 11 March 2005.
Tall Stories features Brendan Healy’s surreal humour at its best. Alternative uses for Viagra, how to get your own back on taxi drivers, carol-singing snails and a witch doctor’s curse are all topics dealt with in Brendan’s irreverent and zany style. The programme carries a 15 certificate, although the occasional ribald language is unlikely to offend anyone other than people who have lead an exceptionally sheltered life! The title Tall Stories reflects Brendan’s height - six feet four inches fully extended. The show was recorded and edited by Ken McKenzie. Also available on VHS video: MWMV67 And DVD: MWMDVD67 |

| THE LITTLE WASTER Bobby Thompson ![]() RUBCD32 |
The Little Waster Recorded at Ryhope Poplars Club; 14 August 1978 The Army Recorded at the Mayfair Ballroom, Newcastle; 19 July 1978 Two recordings of the legendary Bobby Thompson at his best. His hilarious portrayal of working class life and his tales of debt and how to avoid paying have audiences in fits of laughter. Bobby was a born comedian of the kind that possibly only emerges once in a generation. He struck a chord the audience by talking about ordinary happenings and the hardships of life. But although Bobby spoke from his own experience of coming up the hard way, his infectious sense of humour and surreal imagination embellished every anecdote. |

| THE LAUGH-IN Bobby Thompson ![]() RUBCD38 |
Including the songs: Dreamin’ You Little Waster When I Was A Lad The Golden Voice Of Bobby “You don’t care what you spend,” Bobby used to say, “as long as it’s debt.” A little higher up the social scale, it’s called credit, and at the top end (among members of the plutocracy, like committee men’s wives) goods are obtained on account. Bobby had a knack for detecting and exposing the pretences and petty snobberies of everyday life. His gift of mimicry and uncanny insight into people’s minds made audiences explode with laughter at the revelation of their own thoughts. |

| THE LITTLE WASTER Bobby Thompson ![]() VHS: MWMV1003 DVD: MWMDVD1003 |
DIGITALLY REMASTERED VIDEO
Bobby Thompson - “a legend in his own lifetime” This was the almost unanimous opinion of both audiences and fellow performers. After something like fifty years of comedy and working almost exclusively in the North’s clubland, he commanded high earnings and large crowds. Bobby Thompson was admired and loved as a hero of the working class, who was able to turn tales of harsh experiences into the stuff of laughter. This video shows Bobby at his peak, with full length versions of his most famous acts, The Little Waster and The Old Soldier, an account of his contribution to the Second World War, including an encounter with Adolf Hitler down the chip shop. The video also contains a documentary film shot during his final years, in which he speaks frankly about his origins, and problems with debt, dole and drink. |

| Bobby Pattinson STILL LAUGHING ![]() DVD: MWMDVD80 |
The latest hilarious video from the Godfather of North East comedy Way back on the 22nd October 1957 at the Dominion Theatre in London, Bobby Pattinson won 1st prize of £1000 in the Butlins/Sunday People National Talent Contest. In 1957, this was a fortune as the average weekly wage was only £7. With the prize came the offer of a theatre contract and management by a London agent. Working his way up the bill, he eventually became a headliner in theatres and cabaret clubs throughout Britain and the English speaking world, including Australia, America and South Africa. He appeared at the London Palladium in 1962 and over the years performed five Sunday Night at the London Palladium TV Shows. He started his acting career in 1974 in Granada’s The Stars Look Down and appeared in countless TV plays from then on for both Granada and BBC TV. In 1978, he returned home to Gateshead to open his own music hall The Talk of the Tyne, which was a huge success and didn't have an empty seat for six years. This programme was recorded at the Gala Theatre in Durham. |

| Bobby Knoxall MACKEM LAUGH ![]() DVD: MWMDVD74 |
The wit and wisdom of Bobby Knoxall MBE Introduced by Tim Healy I’ve been a fan of Bobby Knoxall ever since I was a young lad. I was a welder but all I wanted to be was a comedian. I first saw Bobby in 1974 at the Ouston Social Club in Chester le Street, County Durham and I laughed till my belly ached. Bobby oozes confidence, from the moment he walks on stage. He makes you feel as if you were in his front room. I know that Bobby has always needed to be a comedian. That’s his passion in life. This comes out in the delivery of his lines and in his 100% belief in his material. That’s what makes him so special. Every gag he tells sounds like his favourite, no question about it, and he delivers them brilliantly. He's travelled all over the world making people laugh and you have to care about people to want to do that. Bobby is a one-off, a comedian’s comedian. He’ll always be a legend in the North East. He’s recently fought through a life threatening operation, has bounced back and is performing his own unique brand of humour again. I take my hat off to you pal, wish you love and luck, and I know people old and young who buy this DVD will have a great laugh. Tim Healy |
